My maker life began in college when, after years of battling anxiety, depression, and completely ignoring God, my fellow RA invited me to a knit night taking place in the dorm. There I learned how to cast on 40 stitches and began teaching myself how to knit in my quiet Bible study and prayer time the very next day. After nearly 10 years of spending time with God while making knit and crochet scarves, I launched Northknits Handmade Knitwear shop in 2014.
NorthKnits is my spiritual acronym to remember that we must need obey rejoice and thank Him (Christ). My knitwear is chained into this reminder and my style is for the classic minimalist who appreciates cozy beauty + handmade. I center my love for knit and crochet within my pursuit of Christ. Basically I’m just a girl who found grace through knitting. A girl who loves to curl up with coffee to handmake beautiful pieces, particularly chunky scarves, blankets and hats. As I make, I feel blessed to pattern, photograph, package and ship each finished item.
While making during my quiet time I love to read, listen to worship music, and sip lots of coffee. I’m also a southern girl at heart (raised in South Carolina) and currently enjoy the great outdoors in the beautiful Windy City. As the founder of Our Maker life, a movement for makers by makers, my maker team and I find joy in connecting 45,000 makers globally through the OML community and blog. After years of looking down, God told me to look up
As I share my NorthKnits Handmade Knitwear and quiet time journey, my prayer is that you look up to God to be who He created you to be – and to find a bit of cozy along the way.
